Exodus - Chapter 1: The Israelites Oppressed

← Back to Exodus

Scripture Text

These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family: Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah, Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin, Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all; Joseph was already in Egypt.

Primary Commentary

Exodus begins with the Israelites in bondage in Egypt, setting the stage for one of the most significant events in biblical history - the deliverance of God's people from slavery. This oppression serves as a backdrop for demonstrating God's faithfulness to His covenant promises.
