Understanding Scripture with Commentary

Exodus - Chapter 2: The Birth of Moses

← Back to Exodus

Scripture Text

Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.

Primary Commentary

The birth of Moses marks the beginning of God's plan for deliverance. Despite Pharaoh's decree to kill Hebrew male children, God preserves Moses through the faith and courage of his mother and the providential intervention of Pharaoh's daughter.
