Scripture Text

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, 'Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?'

Primary Commentary

Chapter 3 introduces the tragic fall of humanity. The serpent's question plants doubt about God's word and introduces the pattern of temptation that continues throughout human history. This event fundamentally changes the relationship between God and humanity.
